The Palais Garnier is one of the special places in Paris that fires up your imagination. The beautiful ornate Grand Staircase with its huge bronze statues, the Auditorium with it’s plush red velvet seats and domed ceiling painted by French artist Marc Chagall, even it’s history as inspiration for the Phantom of the Opera. And this room here, the Grand Foyer, which so much resembles the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. I love to try and imagine what it was like here in the Belle Époque, the ladies attending grand parties and performances, wearing elaborate ball gowns and sparkling jewellery, the famous people who must have walked the staircases. ..l if only the walls could talk!
